I Want You!

After a long hiatus I have finally started working on the second issue of my magazine Chelsea. If you missed my post about the first issue it can be accessed here. Huppert-a-thon!

I'm always excited when the Cannes film festival rolls around because more often than not, Isabelle Huppert is there. This year she was the jury president and I was super stoked to hear that they awarded the Palme d'Or to Michael Haneke, who directed her in The Piano Teacher. I really wish that they would team up again and make a prequel to The Piano Teacher because I would love to know how her character became so colossally perverted. Maybe I should start a Facebook group or something. But anyway, I wanted to do a post about Isabelle Huppert because she is mysteriously absent from the fashion blogosphere. This seems illogical, as she is beautiful and chic and, you know, French. Why should Catherine Deneuve get all the attention? Isabelle may not be as glam as the Queen D but she's certainly chic enough to merit one lousy post on a vaguely cat-themed fashion blog, right?

I have a million a photos on my computer that I always intend to work into a post at some point but this rarely happens so I have decided to introduce a new feature titled "Things I Like" which showcases a vast assortment of gems culled from the depths of my hard drive. Enjoy!

I got this biker chicks postcard at a truck stop in Arizona. It's propped up on my windshield in this photo. It's really amusing to me that the clothes that these girls are wearing are so outdated that they have actually come back into fashion before this postcard has ceased to be produced. Five years ago this would look have looked atrocious but now everyone's like, "Oh my god, where can I get a studded leather bralet???"

Her name used to be Christine Perfect, which sounds so much cooler than Christine McVie. Not to knock Christine, she is amazing and happens to be the celebrity who I most closely resemble.


How unfortunate is Elizabeth Hasslebeck's outfit? She probably saw the Grey Gardens HBO movie with Drew Barrymore and was really inspired. That said, the point of this blurb is not that I hate Elizabeth Hasslebeck (which I do), but rather, that I love The View. I highly suggest that you watch it.

Hello Furacoco

It's really convenient when your musician friends make music that you actually really like. Such is the case with my BFFs Sarah & Kyoko, who have recently formed a band called Furacoco. I highly recommend that all of you lovely people check out their myspace page and please do make a point of listing to "Hacking Them Down", which is totes my jam. It sounds like surfy, early B-52's-y spy music and whenever I hear it I get an overwhelming urge to don a vinyl catsuit and do my best impersonation of Maggie Cheung in Irma Vep. Is that weird?

I also could not resist posting this gorgeous photo of Sarah's that is currently on view at the Stricola gallery (across the street from Deitch Projects). It's part of an animal-themed group show called Wild Things!. There is actually is a cat in this photo, can you spot it?

listening to arctic monkeys at the moment,alex turner is so beautiful and talented,i'd kill to meet him,hes soooo lovely,his beautful face,his beautiful eyes,his beautiful laugh which you can hear on arctic monkeys cover of girls aloud's 'love machine'.i do not even understand how one man can be so talented as he is,TLSP are amazing,I believe Meeting Place is the most beautiful song I have ever heard,after Wonderwall of course.I just do not understand how one man can be so amazing and talented? Hes more than good looking,I hate all these girls that are like 'ALEX TURNER-PHWOAAR!' he is phwoarrr,but hes also much more than that,yes,in my eyes he is the most beautful man alive but think how talented he is? and the thing is if I met him,I wouldn't know what to say,not because like most 'indie' girls I was gobsmacked by his hotness.but because hes sooo talented and I wouldn't be able to think of a witty intelligent thing to say.
i love that my accent is exactly the same as his,i talk like the most beautiful man alive,i sound like such a northener when i speak,but,im not complaining because all the best bands and their members are from UP NORTH!i want to meet the most beautiful man alive before i die,i dont want to hug him or have a kiss on the cheek from him like many others,yes that would be nice,but if i was to, all i would really want is to have a conversation with him,ask him many questions.my friend ellie has a whole art folder dedicated to turner,thats a proper fan not, writing on your bebo 'alex turner-cooorrrrr' sorry,my little rant is over,he is more than bloody hot! HES THE MOST PERFECT MAN ALIVE,DONT EVEN BOTHER ARGUING WITH ME?! OK?! THANKYOU.the best thing is that my cousin looks like alex turner,when we are out im like yeah,im with turner.i could really go on all day(seriously) but i wont as im going to do something else,hes soo perfect he makes me want to cry,i hope that i dont sound like an obsessed fan girl,which i could be,but if i saw/met turner i would stand there with a big :O on my face.

I find thrift & vintage shopping to be an immensely thrilling and thereputic activity, largely because I know that every so often I will inevitably discover something marvelous and scoop it up for a fraction of it's actual value. Such an event occurred a couple weeks ago when I discovered this necklace/belt hybrid thingie at a little jewelry shop in Carroll Gardens. It is by far the best piece of jewelry that I have ever purchased and part of me is a little sad because I doubt that I will ever find anything this cool ever again. But it's fine because now that I have this weird lion head thing getting dressed is a hell of a lot easier. It creates the illusion that I put effort into making an outfit, when in actuality all I did was throw on a pair of trousers and my beloved tri-blend sweatshirt.

I spy a DIY!

this weekend has been ok,I haven't been anywhere which seems a bit of a waste,but I just want to chilll!Yesterday,I took lots of photographs and painted a english rose on to a canvas,I will post a picture of it later this week when it has been hung on my wall.
Today I got up quite early,which is strange as it is Sunday,my usual lie in day.I found some old jeans from zara lying at the back of my wardrobe,I wore them probably twice last summer so I did a quick DIY on them and I took photographs so that if you have some jeans lying around you can do this very simple DIY to yours too.All I wanted was another pair of ripped skinnies to be worn with my black ankle boots which I hardly ever take off.Heres the how to...

picture 1 -equipment needed-jeans,cheese grater and sharp scissors.

picture 2-cut a straight line into your jeans,you can always stretch it too with your hands to make the rip messier.i cut mine on the knee as this is where i wanted my rip to be,you can cut your jeans anywhere,rips can look effective on any area of your jeans,even behind the knee if you wish(i'm going to be trying that soon,i've seen mary-kate with some jeans like that).the cut will fray the jeans a little.

picture 3-grab your cheese grater and move it up and down the rip you made,the jeans will fray and the thread from inside the jean will hang loose.

picture 4-no explanation needed,move your cheese grater up and down the rip until you are satisfied with the fray of the thread.

-this is my jeans after,all of these photographs were taken by me,so therefore are copyright to me,i did not put my blog name on them as it spoiled the pictures in my eyes,if i see or hear that they are on any other blog i will personally come to your house with a sledge hammer(jokes) but seriously,don't bother.

Collabs, Schmolabs...

Ok, so I know I would typically be really excited about a CFDA collaboration between Vena Cava and the Gap. Sounds like a good idea, I love Vena Cava's prints (though I do think the stylist for Gossip Girl should really put Serena in something else for once) and this black and white arrow print camisole I bought a few years ago is still one of my default wardrobe favorites. This morning I was trolling Refinery29 and was alerted to the partnership. Looks like Vena Cava is just heavily relying on the same exact print they did a few years ago, much to my dismay. Don't get me wrong, I like the Gap for certain things (like t-shirts) but I cannot stand the lint-collecting brushed cotton that they use so often...shudder. Plus I'm just miffed that my fave go-to top will soon have a million dopplegangers on sale for $14.99. Oh well. Here's hoping that the rest will be a little more exciting. Of course the CFDA winner Alexander Wang is also doing a collection for the Gap which looks even more lackluster. Then again, I've just never really been much of a fan of A. Wang or the theme this year, khaki. The cropped motorcycle jacket is ok...all this is putting me to sleep but I guess I shouldn't expect to be dazzled by the Gap's offerings, right?
