I <3 Paul and Joe Beaute!

I'm always drooling over the Paul and Joe cosmetics line, the Spring 2008 is totally the best looking so far. However, having a love affair with Paul and Joe Beaute is so frustrating because it's incredibly hard to find online (Sephora stopped carrying it- UGH) and I have yet to find somewhere that stocks the entire collection here on the West Coast. One can occasionally find a tube of lipstick or whatever at Anthropologie but that's not enough to satisfy my appetite for cutesy packaging and the finest looking bottles of nail polish ever. Here are just a few of my favorite things:

So I'm begging you savvy Cat Party readers to clue me in on where to buy my favorite overpriced cosmetics that I really shouldn't spend any more money on, but really want to. Oh and please don't say call the Bergdorf counter, I'm just not into that.

In the meantime I'll have to settle for these totally cute wallpapers that are available to download here.

Girls on Film

Click here to check out the Mulleavy sisters’ top ten picks from the Criterion Collection. I am totally with them on Picnic at Hanging Rock. For me, the vagueness of the ending only furthers it’s appeal, but if you really want to know what happened to Miranda and the gang, read this.

Book Club: Cathy

I love love love Kate Bush and I was so happy to discover this extremely rare book of childhood photos of the singer, taken by her older brother John Carder Bush. Kate was around 8 years old when these photos were taken. She was so scrappy and cute and obviously destined to be cool.

Preen to Produce a Secondary Line!

I was overwhelmed with joy upon hearing that the insanely talented duo behind Preen is launching a diffusion label, Preen Line, which debuts at Copenhagen Fashion Week on February 8. There must be a god!

The Dior Couture Video!

Screw Valentino! The Dior show is where it's at as far as I'm concerned. Although I do think that the music supervisor should definitely be shot. Who's with me?

Watch PART TWO and PART THREE

ps. Skip Part 3 if you are creeped out by John Galliano

Fashion on Film: Daisies

I loved Kat of No Good For Me’s underrated fashion films post on awhile back. I am also partial to 3 Women (Shelley Duvall is quite possibly the coolest looking person ever) but my other favorite über-girly fashion film has to be Vera Chytilová's Daisies (aka Sedmikrasky). It's about these two teenage girls (both named Marie) who decide to rebel against their patriarchal, bourgeois society by embarking upon a series of immature pranks: food fights, arson, etc. They wear matching mini dresses and have super cool raccoon-like eye makeup and are pretty much my heroes. So you all should rent Daisies asap, or at least watch the YouTube clip below.

Book Club: Native Funk & Flash

Growing up in northern California, I always thought that hippies were pretty gross. But after moving to a metropolitan area I developed an appreciation for patchwork skirts, cannabis motifs, embroidered denim, and all things crafty. But not patchouli. Never patchouli. Native Funk & Flash by Alexandra Jacopetti is the quintessential hippy fashion book. It features the work of obscure bay area designers from the seventies, most notably Kaisik Wong, whose patchwork vest was famously plagiarized by Nicholas Ghesquiere. I suspect that Miuccia Prada also drew inspiration from Wong for her S/S 08 accessory collection for Miu Miu. I am most impressed with Mary Ann Schildkenecht’s psychedelic shirt. Look at it---the ENTIRE thing is embroidered! She made it out of bed sheets while serving a two year jail sentence for smuggling hash. But anyhoo, Native Funk & Flash is long out of print so I recommend checking ebay stat. Peace Out!

Urban Outfitters and Nylon are offering a free one year subscription, no purchase necessary. Click here to get yours! I've only bought a handful of copies in the past year or two, ever since that weird Myspace themed issue came out. Willing to give Nylon another chance, especially because it's free!

At Long Last, a Jovovich-Hawk for Target Leak!

Finally, an image from the Jovovich-Hawk for Target collection! I've been trying not to get too pumped because I'm always sorely disappointed with the GO collections...the fabrics tend to make me recoil with disgust, I suppose I'm a little spoiled or something. I am especially nervous about this one because I LOVE Jovovich-Hawk (a long time Milla fan) and I really don't want this to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Anyways, I see a cute print, so that's a start. The shorts are pretty gross but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that's the worst of it. Thanks so much to Nitro:licious via Sally Jane Vintage for the preview!

OMG

I was on an IMDB binge yesterday and I stumbled across this newly leaked image from the upcoming film version of Where the Wild Things Are, directed by Spike Jonze. How will I manage to wait until 2009?

Can You Stand the Hotness?

Props to Harper’s Bazaar for making attempts to be less boring. They seem to be moving in a more humorous direction these days, what with that Simpsons editorial and the Chloe Sevigny-in-rehab thing a few months back. Now they have paired Nadia Auermann with a variety of presidential hopefuls, a few of which are posted below. The editorial also includes Republican candidates, but I opted not to post them because frankly, they are just less attractive. And let me just say, how crazy good looking is John Edwards? He’s like a Ken doll but hotter. And he’s 53! I won’t be voting for him but, damn…… I'd hit that!

Fashion on Film: The L Word

All of us at Cat Party are eagerly awaiting the season premiere of The L Word, which finally airs tonight on Showtime. I can’t wait to catch up with my favorite characters, and more importantly, see what they’re wearing! I am surprised that the wardrobe on the show hasn’t garnered more attention, à la Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. There is certainly no shortage of designer clothes, from Kate Moennig’s Dior Homme suits to Leisha Hailey’s quirky Marni ensemble (below). I would most love to raid Mia Kirscher’s closet and spend the rest of my days prancing around in her covetable assortment of Jovovich-Hawk, Mayle, and Isabel Marant dresses. And I’ll take her pomeranian while I’m at it!
