High on Rebellion

How have I never seen these Franz Gertsch paintings of Patti Smith? Too good! The third one is cropped but you can see the whole thing in the last photo. My life would be complete if one of these was hanging over my couch.

Cherry Bomb

Say what you will but I totally loved The Runaways. Sure it has a few inevitable biopic cliches but it was so entertaining and visually satisfying that I didn't really care. As tempting as is it is to post a million pictures of Kirsten Stewart I thought that it would be more interesting to share a few of my favorite cinematic rock 'n roll heroines. Who are yours?

Top to bottom: Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Jem & the Holograms, Ghost World, The Rose, Times Square, Starstruck, Ladies & Gentleman, the Fabulous Stains, Smithereens.

Lucifer Rising

I have been coveting this jacket from Kenneth Anger's Lucifer Rising ever since my high school days and I can't believe that my dream has finally become a reality. Sixpack France has lovingly replicated the famous jacket and it is available for purchase in their webstore for around $180 USD. Unfortunately it is only available in men's sizes so I may have to go with the t-shirt instead. If you haven't seen Lucifer Rising I've posted a clip below although you'd be much better off renting The Films of Kenneth Anger Vol 2. If you need more encouragement, did I mention that Marianne Faithfull is in it? Way epic.

Cheap Chic: MJ Special Items

I love the Marc Jacobs special items store on Bleeker street but the experience of shopping there can be a little aggro. However, there are currently a few choice items that are totally worth fighting tourists over:

Maripol x MJ necklace $20, bird umbrella $18, heart wallet $35, bow tie $25

BBW Sample Sale

If I didn't live over here on the Best Coast I would totally go to this Built By Wendy sample sale. Perhaps I would find that lattice dress from Spring '08 that I've totally regretted not buying...or maybe that adorable high-waist linen dirndl skirt? There's bound to be something adorable to pick up on the cheap, if not you can just stroll down to egg to drown your sample sale sorrows in a mimosa and Eggs Rothko. Oh man.

CAT HIGH #2

Here are some more ridiculous cat yearbook photos courtesy of Cat High! I'm especially fond of Kitty Katz, obviously.

Whats that they're telling you?

So,I'm finally 16,last week I finally hit the legal age, haha.I had my birthday present brought for me yesterday off of my mother,it was my outift for Arctic Monkeys and it came to quite a lot,so yeah,I got some gorgeous shoes,a lilac dusky skirt and a lovely blouse. Then my Arctic Monkeys tickets were my actual present and ahhhh! I CANNOT WAIT.The only problem is because we met Matt last time,I am getting my hopes up to meet Alex or any other member of the band and because after meeting Miles,I kind of met band members easily,I feel like because I took it for granted,we won't meet anyone this time round and thats going to be a huuuuge dissapointment. Its just like ah crap, what if I/we don't? I'm soo excited for the gig though so yeah :) :) and i'm in london for the whole weekend,so yeah its gonna be gooood.Really good,I don't know why but I update my tumblr more than this thing, might try and change that haha.

I am booking underage fest tickets soon as i loved it last year and really want to go again,I also want to book lightspeed champion, calvin harris and chase and status tickets. And V/LEEDS TICKETS NEED TO BE SORTED LAURIE! Theres soo many gigs I want to go to,upcoming ones are Arctic Monkeys,Twisted Wheel and Foals. But yeah I need to book more to keep me happy.
Hope your all ok anyway and that school is going ok for yousss all!
I am currently listening to Peter Doherty,I love the man so so so so so so much.Grace/Wastelands is one of my fave albums ever, its a masterpiece.I wish I had got tickets to last years gig he played at Rock city in Nottingham,I was away when they came out and wanted to go sooo baddddly.BLAH.You better come back doherty!

Pop Culture Roundup

First and foremost, big thanks to Refinery 29 for the shout out! I will keep the Strangers with Candy posts coming...

Speaking of which, how amazing is this photo of SWC alum Stephen Colbert reading Cat Fancy at the Olympics? Yet another reason to love this amazing man.

RuPaul's Drag Race is the best reality show of all time. Don't believe me? Watch every single episode here. The contestants are true artists and RuPaul is the most likable mentor since Tim Gunn. Plus the second season has cool guest judges like Henry Rollins and Dita von Teese.

I can't get enough of the Lady Gaga/Beyonce video. The clothes, the campiness, and the Tarantino references are completely irresistable. Beyonce should really keep the Bettie Page hair.

The Cheshire Cat in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is totally the cat of my dreams. I would never leave Wonderland if that sassy furball was in my life.

Past Imperfect

In a magical (and convenient) twist of fate I stumbled upon new Deborah Turbeville exhibition at the Staley-Wise gallery today. Her show closes on the 20th so if you live in New York get over there ASAP! You can also buy the accompanying book here. Damn, my Amazon wish list is getting long!

The Blank Generation: Part Two

Move over Freja, Jerri Blank is so hot right now! When I saw that Chloe look I was
immediately remided of the outfit that Jerri wore in the first episode of Strangers With
Candy. If all of this is going over your head because you don't watch SWC do yourself
a favor and watch every single episode for free right here. Good times!

at Chloe. Ps. this post was inspired by Should Be On The Nanny. Love it!

Ruffles and Scrumbles!

Okay so I know the Pipeline kind of beat me to the chase on this one, but I was super psyched to see all of the crocheting happening during fashion month! It definitely makes me feel more validated for sitting in my room for hours, aimlessly making granny squares (and circles and hexagons and triangles.) Here are some of my faves!

What, no Salvatore Barbie?

Major props to the geniuses at Mattel for making these killer Mad Men Barbies. I really appreciate the fact that they used the original doll design. Seriously, how rad is the Joan doll? Look at her little pen necklace---loves!

Mad Men Barbies retail for $74.95 and will be available in May.

Mag Hag: Pop

The new issue of Pop is so fantastic. It is genuinely diverse and that is not something that you encounter very often. There are too many wonderful things to mention in a single post but my very favorite part is the Allen Jones zine that comes with the issue. Sean & Seng photographed Devon Aoki wearing sculptures that Jones created for a film that he was developing in the seventies. It was about a woman who wanted to be a model but every time someone took a photo of her she turned into a man. The solution to her dilemma was to wear a woman suit which concealed her male physique. Sadly this movie was never actually made. It drives me crazy when creative geniuses are unable to actualize their visions due to financial constraints. Especially when studios blow millions of dollars making horrible Robin Williams movies. So unfair!
