More Words of Wisdom

Being a creative person is 75% fun and 25% complete agony. And sometimes it's the other way around. Actually, most of the time it's the other way around so having a little guidance can be immensely helpful. I live by Sister Corita Kent's rules, especially #7, #8, and #10. Do yourself a favor and tape them above your workspace.

Also, I just found out that Aaron Rose made a documentary about Sister Corita called Become a Microscope. Can't wait to see it! On an unrelated note, I may be a little slow with the updates because I am going to France tomorrow! But hopefully I will find lots of lovely French things to blog about when I get back. I am so excited to eat my way through Ladurée!

CATBURGLAR

Watch out New York, there's a cat burglar on the loose! Apparently a woman wearing a cat mask recently held up a shoe store in the East Village getting away with a pathetic $86. That could buy a mere four cases of Fancy Feast, not exactly worth all the pussy footing around if you ask me.

Oh baby I was born with a fast fuse

This is what I have finally decided on wearing in my hair for prom,I didn't particularly want anything fancy, but my mum made me buy something for my hair and I decided a feather clip was the best bet, with the two headbands,ha,both from Accessorize.
This is the jewellery I decided on also,as I had far too much,I cannot believe how much people have spent on their dresses for Prom, and I've seen one on Facebook and it is GROSS.

And for the formspringer who asked to see my Prom shoes, this is them, they are from Topshop,I've had them about 4 months, wore them to Arctic Monkeys At The Royal Albert Hall and parties etc,
They match really well with my dress, quite looking forward to Prom now,I know everyone will give me foul looks as all the girls in my year are bitches, haha, but Its going to be hilarious, can't wait to lust and long for their long, silk dresses, hahahahahaha.
Love xx
They are the most perfect couple EVER.

Imitation of Life

Technicolor melodramas and cheesy L.A. imagery are two of my major weaknesses so I can't help but love Alex Prager's photographs. She recently did a short film with Bryce Dallas Howard called Despair, check it out here.

jump in the pool

So I'm gonna try and blog EVERDAY about what I've been up to.
Its currently 9am,I am still in bed as I cannot physically bring myself to get up,I am SO tired,I went out yesterday to one of my friend Alex's (I love saying his name,I'm like Alex,Alex, and he's like can you STOP saying my name HA)house and didn't get back 'til late last night,I went to the art thing at school but didn't even bother trying to take photographs as my work was in the corner and it was just in a really crap position haha,I stayed for like 5 mins and wanted to go.Lilys was good though, although I didn't get a photo,ha.Anyway at Alexs house,it was really fun,we were messing around in his massive garden for three hours, then me and Lily decided we wanted to put his pool up,when we say pool,we mean the massive ones,so it took two hours for us to put it up,then we had to take it down as we wanted to move it,hahaha,it was hilarious,I have a tan now though, which I am rather proud of,for me any sort of colour is good, haha,my back is burnt though as we had a water fight, where only me and Lily seemed to get wet,Alex and Josh (other friend) didn't seem to get wet at all. hahaha.
The pool takes ages to fill, when we left it was not nearly full,so we are hopefully going round today and it shall be full, after the match, hopefully,ha
So,yes that is what I did yesterday,it was much more fun than what that sounded, hahaha.
I had Friendly Fires -Jump In The Pool,in my head all day yesterday, relevant I suppose,ha

I was unimpressed by the lack of help we were getting when cleaning Al's pool, haha
Shorts - Vintage Levi's
Tshirt - The Beatles/Let It Be - Topshop

Printed Matter

I've never seen an issue of Palais in the flesh so I can't vouch for it's quality but I absolutely love these Dynasty-themed covers. I'd go for the Krystle one.

I really really love these shoes, they are Vivienne Westwood's Roman 3 Strap Shoes and they are £350.00,I think they are just SO perfect and ah,Alexa wore them around NY shopping recently,Alexa is just looking so amazing at the moment,I think she looked stunning and SO cool at the the YSL Fragrance Launch.
How beautiful does Alex look? Gah,I want to meet him again and soak up how perfect he is in real life, photos DO NOT do him justice,at all!
Plus,I much prefer this Mulberry bag to the Alexa,it's so much cooler,I think.

Jus' A Rascal

Today I had my hair cut and coloured as I said yesterday,I am so happy with the result,it is much shorter, but that's the way I've always liked my hair, never really been a long haired girl,ha,altough I do love long hair, haha.I spent three hours having it cut and coloured,as I had to have the old colour took out as much as possible and then highlighted to get rid and when I was there,I just thought,ah cut it all off,I don't care,it's only hair, haha,Agy D looks gorgeous with her scrubbing brush hairstyle anyway,ha,she has a beautiful face.
When I got home from the hairdressers,Lily was waiting at my house for me to return, haha,I am getting her a key soon and also SHE'S NOT MOVING FOR A WHILE as her house fell under or whatever,ha,but yeah, thankyou God (Alex)
We did some gardening, then listened and danced around to the best radio station ever! Arctic Monkeys,Florence,Oasis,The Beatles,The Rolling Stones,Stone Roses etc,it is so good!
Also,I really like Ellie Goudling,I don't care what anyone says,I am going to see her at Underage - can't wait!
Here's a few photos from today (me and lily)
I shall take some proper photographs tomorrow of my new hair..

the mothers take a shine to you, that's not the case with the dads

Had such a nice weekend! Been out to watch the football, all I am going to say is Get a grip England, come on,at least have a bit of passion about you.
Generally I have nothing to do now that all of my exams are over and I have offially left school,I have the longest holiday ever, which I am so so happy about,it's great doing nothing, although I do plan to order lots and lots of books and dvds and also apply for a job somewhere.
Tomorrow I am going to the hairdressers,to have my hair 'permanently' died, eek.
Wanting to go the same colour as Alexa, the hairdresser is going to advise me,haha,I may want blonde like Alexa also, unsure.
I have also been wanting to get my tragus pierced and longing for a tattoo, but I'm still deciding on the piercing and as for tattoo's,I can't get over how it will be there forever,so I decided against one,I did buy the 'Chanel inspired' temporary tattoos from Topshop though,ha
I have been listening to Darwin Deez and The Courteeners today in preparation for Underage, actually cannot wait to see The Courteeners again,I didn't enjoy them so much at Rock City as the sound was distorted and weird, however I hope they are good at underage, wouldn't mind meeting someone at Underage, maybe Liam Fray,ha,I don't know he's a bit up himself, maybe not.
Anyway here is what I wore today before going out for a meal for Fathers day, nothing special, but I couldn't actually be bothered to put anything together this morning.

Denim dress - H&M
Cardigan - H&M (alexa has this,haha)
Two purses I have bought recently, love the tan one,it was only 2.50,trying to save my money for some new shoes I NEED for Underage!

Hey Ladies

Despite how backwards our laws are, President Obama has declared that June is now LGBT pride month! I’ll take it.

In celebration of this glorious month I thought I’d share some of my favorite lesbian/bisexual fashion icons. It drives me crazy that lesbian style is practically synonymous with frumpiness. Not all gay women look like the Indigo Girls or Janet Reno; some of us even wear heels and dresses! However, there is no denying that there is distinctive look that has been cultivated by lesbians (and bisexuals, thank you Marlene Dietrich!) over the years. Gay women have been appropriating men’s clothing long before Annie Hall and the current “borrowed from the boys” trend. Not that I’m resentful of the BFTB thing, I love that I can find great blazers (without bust darts!) and brogues at high street stores. But I was never fully committed to that look anyway, leopard print and dresses are far too appealing. Although after looking at these photos I may have to start channeling Garbo & co. on a regular basis.

Top to bottom: Gia Carangi's Armani ad, Lissy Trullie, Jodie Foster, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Jett, Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Greta Garbo, Edwige Belmore, Freja Beja, Gia again, Radclyffe Hall, Peaches, Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Alla Nazimova, Jodie Foster, Anita Berber, Marlene Dietrich.

NOTE: I forgot to include Patricia Field and Bettina Koster! They have great style. As does Jil Sander, although she is closeted for some bizarre reason. And I also love Rachel Maddow's Buddy Holly glasses.

Oh, and Guy Trebay wrote an interesting article about lesbian fashion a few years ago, check it out here.
